Artist Statement
Memory and dreams act as reference material for my work which is often in the form of coloured pencil drawings, paintings and large scale cut outs/murals. I delve into the timeline of my own life and combine this with events, timelines of others and society as a whole.
One of my main interests is in the spectre of dreams. This interest pushes assumed realities along a knife edge mixing facts with fictions and giving the feeling not knowing if you are awake or dreaming. It is this uncertainty and the achievement of balancing these two opposites which is key to my work.
Current Practice
I use basic materials as a vehicle for ideas which I develop through drawing. I demonstrate this in my free standing cut-out murals, by using only card, tape, cane and paint. The primitive methods I use are reminiscent of cave painting and have a more than passing resemblance to graffiti art. Scale and environment are also important in giving the works a monumental and mythical presence.
