The Subconscious Portraits 

The Subconscious is a automated self monitoring system, an auto pilot silently working in the background, which forms the root of our being. The work explores the idea of a subconscious identity within the landscape of the mind, and looks at what forms our true selves. 

My interests in the fundamental principles of portraiture have been developed here to realise a language in painting that is open ended and infinite. there is a dialogue which happens between the viewer and painting which creates a kind of bespoke portraiture reflecting the individual viewer's needs.

I have applied myself in a similar way to lanscape painting. I have disregarded any sense of place, and shunned physical reality. i have created an imagined  reality with no boundaries where again there is a sense of the infinite. my exploration of negative space in the paintings has allowed me to push this idea even further
